College Admissions: What We Do
The 2008-2009 admissions season was a nerve-wracking one for many applicants and their families, with schools like Harvard, Amherst, Northwestern, and Dartmouth seeing continued increases in applications despite the economy, and coming on the heals of double-digit percentage increases in applications during the 2007-2008 season. High school seniors are also experiencing a demographic boom that complicates college admissions, with 2009 ushering in the largest number of high school seniors in United States history, according to the New York Times. If you and your family are feeling overwhelmed by the college application process, you are not alone.
While we can't wave a magic wand and take away all the anxiety and stress of applying to college, our goal is to help you prepare for the application process so that you can apply in peak form, maximize your opportunities, find the schools where you'll flourish and learn and grow, all while keeping perspective... and peace in the family... and your sanity.
We help you figure out what your strengths and weaknesses are, develop an action plan, and cut through all the static and white noise and conflicting advice and mind-bending anxiety as you prepare for this big step. If you want to put your best foot forward and you're willing to roll up your sleeves, we are here to support you every step of the way and help you reach your goals.
We tailor all our work to each applicant, but our comprehensive services typically include the following:
- helping you choose an appropriate list of schools based on your educational and life goals, the kind of environment in which you will thrive, and your admissions chances
helping you think through what classes, extracurricular activities, jobs, and summer opportunities to pursue in preparation for applying - helping you determine which standardized tests to take and when
- helping you identify what makes you stand out as an applicant and strategize about ways to neutralize any weaknesses
- helping you ensure that all the parts of your application fit together seamlessly: that you communicate your core messages in the right places and leverage your limited word count to maximum effect
- helping you choose the most advantageous essay topics and recommenders and improve your writing in the editing and revising process
- helping you prepare for admissions interviews and
- helping you with waitlist management.
We also offer packages for famllies who are seeking help only with the essay portion of the application process.
We work with future applicants as early as ninth grade in high school and as late as senior year, and we also enjoy working with applicants from secondary schools outside the United States. We encourage you to start the planning process as early as possible to give yourself the most options when it comes time to apply.
College is a life-altering experience, and it is our privilege to work with applicants and their families at this important and exciting juncture in their lives. Welcome!
