College Admissions Testimonials

Our clients provide us with regular feedback. Below is a sampling of responses about their experience working with an Ivey coach.

To put it frankly, I WOULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN IN WITHOUT YOU!!! I am 100% sure of that. With your help I was able to get into my dream school!

I am practically in tears, I'm so happy. You changed our son's life and you changed our family's life. We can't thank you enough.

I just wanted to check in and report that S is doing great and could not be happier than she is at Penn. I was with her in NYC this weekend on the back end of a business trip, so I had a good amount of time with her. (Funny how inviting her up for a play or two gets her attention.) She did great academically last semester, is making good friends and has joined the sorority this semester.

Without your counsel, neither S nor I suspect she’d be a Quaker.  We’re grateful for you making the opportunity possible.

I think it’s obvious how much I love C. First she’s a girl. That makes all dads protective by nature. Secondly, she’s such a sweet spirit and I know the world will be unkind at times. I’m protective and it’s hard to let someone take the wheel on something so important as her college choices. But for the record, let me say the following with a huge smile on my face:

  • You were right that she didn’t need to take an extra class in 12th grade.
  • You were right that after being devastated by her SAT score that the assessment test may indicate that she would do better on the ACT.
  • You were incredibly insightful to guide us towards small liberal arts colleges. I didn’t make the connection to the Montessori background but you did and I think she will be MUCH happier than going to a large research university.
  • When I looked at your Spring break choices, the idea of driving to Vassar was very unpleasant. But when we got there, we all knew that it was different than every place we had been. I was concerned that it would get her hopes up. But I knew it was a highly selective school and it might be a motivator to her.

I could continue but I realize you have other clients and for them, the journey is still going on. It was not easy to hand the wheel over to C and you and just observe. I observed as much as I could. I can raise my hand and say that I took your advice and I never looked at her essays until after they were submitted.

The essay about _____ made me cry. It was perfect and so hard to read as a parent. I loved it. C’s poem may have been risky to send but it was a perfect compliment to her common app essay. It painted the picture of a great girl dealing with her own challenges but confident nevertheless.

I will admit that I initially hated her “why vassar? essay. I thought it was to immature at first. And then I realized that, yeah, it’s written from the perspective of a teenage girl who fell in love with a place when she didn’t expect to. I read it a second time last weekend and it also moved me to tears. OK, all three of her submissions did so either they were heartfelt, I’m a wimp, or all of the above. :)

All we can hope for is to provide a way for our kids to stand on their parents shoulders and reach higher than we were able to do ourselves. Through her hardwork and your help, she has reached and grabbed Vassar.  It’s a dream come true. :)

Honestly, I think your point about the student presenting a consistent, cohesive picture of himself was important. For many kids and parents (as you obviously know) the tendency is to try to hit all of targets as hard as possible each on an individual basis, and that likely does not ring true on the other end.

1. [Our son] listened to you more than us.

2. He began to understand the implications of the process and his relative position within it.

3. You provided us with perspective, which at times was essential to being able to coexist with the lad.

We are very proud of M - he’s worked hard in a number of areas to put himself in a great position. We can’t believe he’s going off to college so soon! We are equally excited about him getting into a challenging environment in the US and making the most of the experience.

We really want to thank you for all your care and attention to M over the past four years. We think you’ve had a tremendous impact on his focus, planning and goal setting which has materialized into great accomplishments. As a result, what should have been overwhelming and stressful - applying to colleges -- has been somewhat anticlimactic in a good way. Being proactive and having a plan has put Max in this position.

Also, your advice to us on school choice has been invaluable.  Pomona wouldn’t have been on the top of our list (or on our list) when this process started, but now we truly feel that Pomona will be a tremendous fit for M and we feel good about his decision.

We need to talk about our 7th grader next!

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I decided to commit to George Washington University! I think it will be a pretty awesome place to go to school. Also, thanks for helping me with everything!

I was wondering if I could have your mailing address (haha I know that sounds weird) so I could send you a graduation announcement. If not, I can always scan it to you!

Thank you for sharing your "wow" assessment of J's work. It means a great deal, especially coming from you. Your insight and guidance through the whole college process has been (and continues to be) greatly valued and appreciated.

Well W is finally off to school, and I wanted to thank you for your invaluable counsel as he worked through the college process. Having spent last weekend at Northwestern, I am so excited for W and have a great feeling about it as the right place for him. You did such a great job of showing him the world of possibilities, helping him to navigate the process, and helping him to fully think through his decision.

I cant believe I havent told you, i opted for BC :) Thanks for everything you really helped me so much with the whole process. It's my brother's turn soon. He is a completely different person in terms of the way he does work and of course personality haha but i believe ull do the same for him :).

Again thanks for everything!

Thank You...

We could not have done it without you.

For once I am at a loss for words... so I ll sign off, gather my wits, go to work and cherish the process we went through together.
